I finally saw Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan after hearing a bevy of mixed reviews from friends. It seems to be quite a polarizing film, causing people to either rave about it or loathe every frame. Halfway through the film, I couldn’t wait for it to end, checking my the clock incessantly. I was overwhelmed by the increasing tension and began to runout of places to wipe my sweaty palms. I realized that every emotion that I was so deeply experiencing was the intention of the director, and a product of the story and imagery. As soon as the credits rolled, my girlfriend and I turned to each other with a sigh and a sly smile, agreeing that it was the best movie we had both seen in some time. Everything about the film, from the acting, to the cinematography, to the costumes, was so masterfully executed that it came as no surprise when I discovered that the same attention to detail had been applied to the film posters as well. I especially like the one on the top left.
