On Monday, we went to the premiere of Banksy’s first venture into film entitled ‘Exit Through the Gift Shop” at the historic Los Angeles Theatre. Like most Banksy events of late, the celebrities came out in full force: Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz, Adrien Brody, Joaquin Phoenix, and Minnie Driver amongst others. Most people got the sense that the biggest star of the night, Banksy himself, was walking amongst the crowd, perhaps as one of the ski-masked ushers.

The film was entertaining, thought-provoking and highly recommended. It sent me into a dark downward spiral of conspiracy theories as to the true identity of Mr. Brainwash and if this is all an elaborate ruse by Banksy as commentary on the shallowness of the contemporary art scene and the blind consumerism of our world at large.

To top off the night, we were able to nab one of these Banksy ten pound notes. He has printed thousands of them and have slowly put them into circulation in the UK, with most people not noticing that it’s Princess Diana in place of the Queen. A short while back, a framed piece containing eight of these ‘Di Faced Tenners’ sold for nearly $50,000.
